Day One – My Favorite Song:
Hmm … well, that’s a no-brainer. My favorite song of all times happens to refer to my blog name. Rather than spilling out the history of why I chose “Apron Strings” for the name of my blog, check out this post. Oh, and maybe this post.
“Apron Strings” by Everything But The Girl is a song that I first heard back in the mid-80’s on a John Hughes movie soundtrack. I don’t know why I zeroed in on that song (because the entire soundtrack is all sorts of John-Hughes awesome!!), but I just loved Tracey Thorn’s voice. It’s because of this particular song that I got into listening to all EBTG songs.
During my senior year in high school, my future SIL and I had spent the night at her brother’s dorm room at the University of Michigan. Future Hubby was my homecoming date during my Junior Year; and although we had our differences after that one-and-only formal date, we had still remained good friends. That night, after trolling around Ann Arbor and hitting up a couple of college parties, I literally hit the sack (well, my sleeping bag, anyway) and was ready to turn in for the night.
Except, well … in the background, I could hear Tracey Thorn’s voice singing my favorite song. And I knew it was Future Hubby that set the song to play.
I’m not sure what it was, but it certainly stirred some emotions in me. Because that’s the moment I first started to fall in love with Future Hubby.
We didn’t start dating until a few months after I graduated from High School. But to this day, “Apron Strings” has always meant more to me than just that “longing for a child” … It reminds me of the day my heart started to bloom.

And now, here’s a live version of “Apron Strings” off of their “Acoustic” album.
Hope you enjoy this song as much as I do …
