Fickle Facebook

Oh, Facebook … why do you tease me so? You are a fickle friend who loves to simultaneously bring me closer to family and friends I haven’t seen in ages … and make me feel insanely alone. Especially when seeing “First Day of School” pics or status updates from everyone.

Okay, so I exaggerate a bit. What can I say? I was in the Drama Club in high school.

And truth be told, I love seeing all the cute pictures of the kids; especially as I get to see how much bigger and older they’ve gotten since the last pictures of them were posted.

But yet, there’s the little part of me that feels those tiny daggers stabbing away at my core. The sad thing is … well, I’m not quite sure if my “core” is my barren uterus. Or my heart.

Bit by bit, those daggers are disappearing from my heart … and I’m feeling less envious of those family & friends who have become parents. Rather, I’m beginning to be more accepting of where I am in my life and which path my life is taking me.

What an enormous leap from where I was two years ago, eh?

Anyway, I figured since most people are posting pics of their kids on this first day of school, I should post some of mine. Well, my furbabies anyway!

  1. Yep, it’s all about back to school on my FB page too. I thought about posting something like “My daughter would have been starting Grade 7 today,” but I didn’t want people to think I was trolling for sympathy. If they even remember I should have had a daughter. :p

  2. This post is so true. I enjoy seeing the kids pictures, but it hurts at the same time. But then I take a look at some of my other friends and realize I am certainly not alone!!!!! All my single girlfriends and then my other married friends without kids. We should all post about our days too! 🙂

  3. I can tell you that going on vacation the first week back to school helps tremendously. I haven’t been bothered by the photos because Tarzan and I are having a great time in Florida. In fact I’ve even had lots of thoughts about how great it is to not have kids and how we’ll be able to travel all our lives with no worries. However that being said, I know what those photos can do, and if I were home I’d be feeling the same thing you are. Hang in there Em and keep posting pics of your fur babies!

  4. while your hubby and doggy are cute, I have a special place in my heart for kitties. And you definitely have two cute kitties!

  5. Love your furbabies. They definitely deserve a place on Facebook. I have been taking a break from FB for the last six months due to certain ‘friends’ pregnancies and babies — especially when they use FB to complain about morning sickness and parenting, and then use their baby/small children as their profile picture. Someday I hope to have the same accepting mindset that you have, but until that time I am riding the boycott FB train.
